Since 1871

Neighbors insuring neighbors.

River Valley Mutual is a policyholder-owned Wisconsin town mutual — built by rural families who decided to protect one another when no one else would.

Our story

In 1871, it was very difficult for rural farms and homes to get affordable coverage from the standard insurance market. By forming a town mutual, residents could share risk and provide insurance to each other at a fair cost.

That founding idea still runs the company today. Because we’re a mutual, our policyholders are the owners — there are no outside shareholders, and decisions are made in the long-term interest of members and their communities.

Over 150 years, that mission has only grown stronger. River Valley Mutual continues to provide a full line of insurance coverage to home, farm and business owners throughout the river regions of western Wisconsin.

Stronger together

A century and a half of mutuals, now one company.

River Valley Mutual carries forward the legacy of a dozen local town mutuals that chose to join together — pooling strength while keeping service close to home.
